Measuring practice was a fun activity for indoor recesses Have the students interview their parents (etc. relatives) on how they use measuring – report back to class Continue with measuring with rulers & place value Correlated with Math Measuring Unit (Math book chapter 10 - measuring Health connections) Had a baby come in and measured it compared to a 1st grader (hands, head, stomach, length) Brought in pictures of our families and baby pictures Set up a “Me Museum” where the students traced themselves on paper Colored a life size infant and compared the infant to a 1st grader Made “Home & Back” book Measured our hands and feet, charted, and compared BOOKS: Angus Thought He Was Big Everything is 10 Cubes Long CD: Measurement, Time, & Money |
