These extensions are brought to you by other teachers who have used this unit. They have not been evaluated by The Einstein Project.

Measuring practice was a fun activity for indoor recesses

Have the students interview their parents (etc. relatives) on how they use measuring – report back to class

Continue with measuring with rulers & place value

Correlated with Math Measuring Unit (Math book chapter 10 - measuring Health connections)

Had a baby come in and measured it compared to a 1st grader (hands, head, stomach, length)

Brought in pictures of our families and baby pictures

Set up a “Me Museum” where the students traced themselves on paper

Colored a life size infant and compared the infant to a 1st grader

Made “Home & Back” book

Measured our hands and feet, charted, and compared

How Big is a Foot? – Rolf Myllen
How High is Pepperoni? - sent this book home as a math bag with a tape measure and response log.  It has lots of measurement activities in it.
