Butterflies & Friends on Parade 2010

Green Bay Packaging & Schneider National Foundation
present

Support Art & Science! Butterflies & Friends on Parade is a community-wide summer celebration of art and science presented by Green Bay Packaging, Schneider National Foundation and The Einstein Project with support from Dominion Resources and with help from many other area businesses, foundations, organizations, and artists.

The Parade!

The 2010 Butterflies & Friends on Parade art pieces can be found near the Neville Public Museum and on and along the City Deck in downtown Green Bay. Turtles, frogs, cranes, butterflies, flowers, a caterpillar and even a fairy are making the Green Bay community a more interesting place this summer.

We are excited to bring this great blending of art and science back to the area, and hope you will join us.

Win a Butterfly!

The Auction!

Save the Date! The 2010 Butterflies & Friends on Parade art auction will be:

Tuesday, September 28, 2010 at the KI Convention Center

The art will be up for sale September 28th to benefit The Einstein Project in the annual Butterflies & Friends art auction. In the interest of shortening the length of the evening while increasing the variety for buyers, 18 pieces will be featured in the live auction format and 11 mid-sized critters will be sold in a new silent auction.

Auction Details

The art pieces will be auctioned Tuesday, September 28th at the KI Convention Center, with guest auctioneer Action 2 News Anchor Bill Jartz.

  • 5:00 p.m. doors open to allow attendees to examine the art, meet with the artists, enjoy light refreshments, and begin the silent bidding process.
  • 6:30 p.m. the live auction will begin.

A $15 admission fee ($20 at the door) helps The Einstein Project defray the costs of this fundraising event. Tickets are available at The Einstein Project or by calling (920) 884-8800.

Vote for Your Favorite!

New this year is a "People's Choice" award. Vote for your favorite art piece: $1 = 1 vote. Vote online at or add to your ticket purchase (online voting ends September 24th, however, votes will also be accepted at the auction on September 28th). The artist whose piece receives the most votes will receive an award at the September 28th auction.

Fun with Butterflies & Friends

The American Foundation of Counseling Services (AFCS) has its offices in the Bellin Building and decided to create a team building/scavenger hunt exercise around the art on display downtown this summer.

Mike Hogan, director of administrative operations at AFCS created a list of clues such as, "90 of these mean I could (if I was real) produce an abundant amount of photosynthesis. Which item am I?" and AFCS teams had to find the answers, photograph themselves with the correct art piece and return to The City Deck for lunch at Dine on the Deck and the announcement of winners. Here are some of the team photos. Much fun was had, and for the curious, the answer to the clue is "Tree of Life" by Kim Jankowski.

Artists Selected for The Einstein Project's 2010 Butterflies & Friends On Parade

A butterfly painted to look like it is under the sea, complete with a mermaid's tail, a glass mosaic frog and one that is a sundial, a "Viceroy" butterfly, a turtle covered in recycled glass, and a "Summer Bouquet" of vines, flowers and summer creatures, are just several of 30 art pieces that will make the Green Bay community a more interesting place this summer as part of The Einstein Project's 2010 Butterflies & Friends on Parade, presented by Green Bay Packaging and the Schneider National Foundation with support from the Dominion Foundation.

A distinguished panel of eleven judges sorted through many wonderful applications to chose 30 designs for this year's on Parade event. Artists will begin work on the selected projects in the next few weeks and the finished art pieces will be unveiled in June to be placed along the Fox River in downtown Green Bay for public viewing throughout the summer.

On September 28th, the art pieces will be auctioned at the KI Convention Center with all proceeds benefiting The Einstein Project, a non-profit school-business-community partnership dedicated to improving the quality of science education for K-8 students in Wisconsin. Special guest auctioneer will be Action 2 News Anchor Bill Jartz.

"This blend of art and science has continued to be a well-received and much-anticipated event in our community," says Julie Paavola, executive director. "In addition to the pre-cast aluminum butterflies and large fiberglass/resin turtles, we will again have artist-created pieces including cranes, flowers and butterflies that the chosen artists will create from the ground up. This year also sees the addition of mid-size fiberglass/resin frogs and turtles and tabletop sized fiberglass/resign butterflies. The quality of the designs and the artists continue to amaze us, and we are most appreciative of their support."
